The Holden Age of Hollywood a Great Review at Window on the World

Photobucket
From the very first page, Sam Bateman, the protagonist of The Holden Age of Hollywood, reminded me of a hard-boiled detective, a post-modern Philip Marlowe.  In fact, Phil Brody’s style of writing has been called “neo-noir”, a term, I assumed coined to describe this modern-day film-noir type.  I loved the snappy dialogue and the footnotes explaining screenwriting jargon and Hollywood “in-jokes” for those of us not in the know.
Only a phenomenal writer could write so many bad script synopses so hilariously well.  And Phil Brody is that evil genius.

Books, Books, and More Books: Book Review of Loving Lady Marcia

What a charming romance novel.  It's kind of a cross between the movie "Sabrina" and a regency romance novel.  I absolutely loved it.  The changes in the characters was so "real" and totally believable since everyone knows or knows of someone who has gone through something that resulted in a similar change.  I was totally picturing people I knew while I was reading.
I give this book 4 out of 5 clouds.

Definitely definitely recommend this one to all lovers of humorous, but still deeply resonant romance stories (even if, like me, you're not particularly fond of historicals!). Thanks to Kramer's smooth and cheeky style, I not once, felt like I was trudging through this book. I guarantee you won't either.

Tea and Book: Loving Lady Marcia, A Review

Loving Lady Marcia was a wonderful book full of tongue in cheek humor and a great story. Ms Kramer managed to take one of today's societies favorite cultural images and transpose it into regency England. What a great mind. I loved that Kieran did this.

Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer: Too Many Cooks by Shirley Ann Wilder

"Wilder’s tale is character driven and the scenario used to take Estelle out of her comfort zone and smack dab into the joy of living was refreshing. While I will admit the plot was predictable, a twist in the tale added mystery and suspense. The story flowed well and the characters had depth and believability. I found myself rooting for them and became wrapped up in the outcome.

If you are looking for an enjoyable contemporary romance Too Many Cooks delivers a fun, sweet and fast paced tale. This is the perfect end of summer read and is sure to make you smile. I look forward to reading more of Shirley Ann Wilder’s work."

"In short, The 5 Moons of Tiiana is an exciting, as well as fascinating, read -- a space 0pera in the tradition of those published in the pulp magazines of the 40's and 50's, as well as by such writers as E.E. "Doc" Smith, Jack Williamson, Poul Anderson, and C.J. Cherryh.  I highly recommend this book to all science fiction fans!  I'm eagerly hoping for a sequel.  Meanwhile, I think I might just want to re-read the adventures on some far away moons orbiting the red giant, Tiiana...MY RATING: 5 stars"

"I was curious to see how Kelli would develop a romance within this era.  Let me say she did a fabulous job, It was a page turner that had me cheering on the main characters and of course at times wanting to say “ you stupid man open your eyes”  ok I digress.

The world she describes is believable and so easy to visualize and the characters are all there. There is a hero and Heroine, the horrid bad guy and all the secondary people to fill out the story.

I wanted to go to my local Renaissance Festival when I finished the book.  Maybe I will find my own Rothgar there."

"This  book has so many things going on. I have to say I loved it all. I usually prefer female narrators just because they are more connectable since I am one myself. But I though Chris was great. In a way it intrigued me because there was relatively nothing I could relate this story. It felt so fresh and brand new. I don't think there is another story quite like this out there and Willow tells it wonderfully. She doesn't need the traditional to make this story work. I was fascinated by this story and you will be too!"

"Savage was right up my alley. I loved the haunting, suspenseful, almost eerie feel of the novel. I really enjoyed this book, the author captured the free lifestyle of the 80′s and created a world that whisked you away from reality and completely draws you into it; Savage is well written with a poetic quality, a lyrical writing style. I fully recommend this read for anyone that enjoys a good paranormal and a slightly darker romance.

I will look forward to other works by this author:)"

"WOW!  By the way did I say WOW!"
"I really got sucked into the story once Aiyana and her wonderful family join the story.  I so want them as next door neighbors!  I can’t say too much about Christian and Aiyana without busting out the story.   I loved all the supernatural things about Aiyana and her family and their names were sooooo cool. I was going a bit nuts wanting the shifter aspect to kick in and thankfully it finally did or I may be in a straight jacket right now."

This quote really rang true for me and has stuck with me:

“This is your soul we are talking about. Your soul wants this; it craves to become an artist. You can’t demy your soul for very long, my friend. That will only lead to misery and bitterness. Look at the world outside these windows. It is filled with people who never followed their dreams. People who gave up.  Mediocre people living small mediocre lives filled with bitterness and resentment because their heart wanted to do something completely different. You, my friend, you could be something truly great. You have an amazing gift. You need to listen to what is inside of you. What is your heart telling you? Only the heart knows your real purpose in this life.”

I have been thinking back on this book al day and it has been a long time since a book has stuck with me in such a way.  Thank you so much Willow for writing this book!  5 HUGE stars!
